It’s a people place
Our organisation is really special!
Sunflower House is a registered charity, which manages the building and organises the programmes and activities at this much loved community venue.
Our Charity Number is 1158558.
The Sunflower House building is owned by The Harbour Church and they lease it to The Sunflower House charity. We work in partnership with The Harbour Church and many other community organisations.
The Community Room building is a purpose built space leased from Ould Developments Ltd and is part of a regeneration project in The Bayle.
Cheriton Community Network is a hub of sociable activity, where we look out for people who may be in need of a bit of company and a friendly cuppa – at 378 Cheriton Road.
We prioritise usage for community benefit, such as self-improvement courses, exhibitions, music, dance, art projects, meetings – as you can see on our other website pages. We may be able to offer some limited usage for community events
– please note we are not currently taking private hire bookings.
We couldn’t do what we do without help from a number of generous supporters and funders – we’re proud to share our appreciation of them with you.

At Cheriton Community Network, we have the fabulous Fiona, preparing snacks, amazing community meals and looking after everyone!
Linda and Ruth head up the wonderful Cheriton Larder team, picking up donations and getting them ready for anyone who needs some good food, rather than letting it go to waste!
John Cheriton is our Tech Assistant, providing help with our IT systems and also supporting the Sunflower House Repair Cafe, which has a great team of experts working with us to fix stuff for people and reduce waste and landfill!
Charlotte Chapman is our Community Arts adviser, working on a range of new projects to provide opportunities for local people in visual arts and self-expression.
Pete Maclaine is a remarkable photographer who has contributed our images. His instagram account here shows just a small part of his range and talent.
And there are many more who all enjoy making a difference as part of the Sunflower House family. Let us know if you would like to join us!
The original vision for Sunflower House as a community centre was the brainchild of the late David Taylor and his wife Raili, who oversaw the major project through which Sunflower House was extensively modernised and remodelled in 2013, to provide flexible facilities for a wide range of activities.
The beautiful Sunflower House mural by local artist Phillippa Goddard
Many passers by admire the beautiful mural which characterises Sunflower House.
This link will take you to the website of “Up the Wall” where you can discover how local artist Phillippa Goddard undertook this extraordinary project.
